Wondering what Myotherapy is?
Myotherapy on a piece of paper is “the treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain or injuries and associated conditions.”

Let’s talk about how I use Myotherapy to help you get moving again. You might think of Myotherapy as a massage but my consultations are so much more than that. Movement Myotherapy is on a whole new level.

I focus on treating the whole person, not just a specific area. That’s why I have three key elements to my treatments:

ASSESS. EDUCATE. EMPOWER.

Movement myotherapy helps you

  • Gain an understanding of your pain and how to overcome it.
  • The confidence and ability to deal with pain.
  • Learn about factors that may be contributing to your pain.
  • Gain the ability to overcome and minimise pain on your own, without having to depend on other people.
  • Learn exercises that fit around your daily life, so you find rehab becomes easier.
  • In conjunction with your strength program, assists with pain management.

 

1. ASSESS

In your initial consultation we start by discussing what you’re struggling with. We explore your thoughts, perceptions, behaviour, injury history, exercise routine because nothing works in isolation. Everything works as a whole so it needs to be addressed as a whole.

2. EDUCATE

Education is vital to recovery and growth. It’s so, so important that you are given the RIGHT information and guidance. There’s a lot of crap out there and it can influence everything to do with your recovery from your opinion and expectations, to how long it takes to get better. It’s my role to give you a better understanding of your body, how you’re feeling and how to look after it.

3. EMPOWER

Empowerment means giving you the support and tools you need to be the best version of yourself. You’ll gain the confidence to keep pushing forward. The belief that you can turn the corner, move again and be pain-free. And you can do it all on your own! You have all the answers, you just need the right support, direction and guidance to get there.

HOW DOES IT ALL WORK?
INITIAL APPOINTMENT

At your first appointment, I’ll ask you some questions and get you to do certain movements. This shows me where the core problem is. Sometimes where you’re feeling pain isn’t the cause.

An initial consultation includes:

  • A conversation around the issue and questions that relate to it.
  • Full observation + Assessment
  • Movement-based testing
  • Exercise prescription aimed to manage pain and restore optimal function
  • Manual therapy (if appropriate) to reduce pain and improve range of motion
  • Take home guidelines + individually tailored exercise program
  • Email summary and follow up
FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT

You’ll continue with Myotherapy, start Rehab Coaching or start Online coaching depending on what we decide in your first appointment.

During these appointments, we’ll chat about your progress and I’ll make any changes necessary to your treatment depending on how you’re feeling and how much your movement has changed.
We’ll also talk about strategies to manage your movement restrictions and the activities you want to do.

I’ll prescribe a rehab program and go through it with you, demonstrating each exercise to make sure you feel confident and comfortable following my instructions.
